Purkinje Fibers is on vacation mode

Until January, purkinje fibers will be closed as I recuperate from a special delivery.
I will hit the ground running as soon as I open the shop again with some new handmades on the 'shelf'.

During vacation mode, I will not be able to reply to your messages in lighting speed, though I will try to respond as quickly as I possibly can.

I will be updating  this blog when possible

Don't forget to follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/purkinjefibers
oh! and let's be friends on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Purkinje-Fibers/163813573657408

p.s. the photo above is completely unrelated to the post. I just wanted to share the top of our unfinished Christmas tree. I just made a really simple felt star and below it is a little wooden painted bird. I've had that bird since forever. I made it sometime in 2003 and I take it with me wherever I moved since college. We've been together since New Jersey, Barcelona, Philippines, Brooklyn and now, Syracuse.

My Local Fabric Store

I sometimes wish I was still a train ride away from the garment district of New York City where I can choose from blocks worth of independent fabric stores.

JoAnn is great because it has all the embellishments and notions that you need - but there's nothing like a small independent fabric shop that tickles my fancy. At least this fabric shop that I recently found close by.

After looking for fabric stores around town, I finally found Feminine Touch Fabrics, a few minutes from downtown Syracuse. They have so many different types and  fabric designs to choose from.

A part of buying fabric is feeling the fabric that you want to use. I really wanted to shy away from JoAnn's because I feel like a lot of what they have are too commercial and predictable. As much as I'd like to order fabric online, it's so hard to choose when you can't feel it. How do you know if it's thick enough? or soft enough? etc.

I feel like texture and design go hand in hand when choosing the right fabric for a project. I really need to have it in my hands to choose the right one.

Another thing you get from shopping at this shop is an actual friendly conversation with the staff. Also, you can ask them so many questions and they'll answer every single one of them without hurrying to the next customer.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

New on the Shop: Wine Totes

Just in time for parties, I just added new wine totes on the shop which holds your standard size 750ml wine. These reusable totes are perfect to give as gifts or to keep for yourself.

It comes in two colors and fabrics. A red, blue and white corduroy with a red handle and a jersey type stretchy fabric with lining to keep it stable in red and gray.

Made with love. Wine not included.

post thanksgiving

The last 2 months of the year are probably my favorite out of all the calendar days. I love the holidays. I crave for it every year. This year, Thanksgiving was a little different though since my fiance and I moved to Syracuse and my immediate family are all downstate. My sisters and I usually get together at my parents' house with their kids (six nieces and one nephew under 11 years old) and we hang out for the whole weekend under one noisy roof. I miss that.

It was still a nice thanksgiving though...had the turkey, spent time with friends and a four day weekend with a sweet fiance. I can't complain.

In other news...I stumbled on a couple of cute things while looking for gift ideas on Etsy:

A hand painted yellow sweater by Painting Elephant

Felt slippers by fullmoon87 a "Little Shop of Felt"

I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving...onward to Christmas!

Darling Deers

Oh, deer, it's dangerous to look this good during hunting season. Seriously, aren't they darling? They are designed by dekanimal from Hong Kong.

Their etsy shop is like a magical petting zoo...

aah...this is what love feels like translated in colors, feathers and scales...
